Greetings, Adventurers!

Join the New World team for our September Team Update video, where we discuss first year takeaways, the revamped starting experience, Brimstone Sands, Heartgems, the Greatsword, and the Ennead Expedition.

The video will be sectioned by topic on YouTube, so if you’re only interested in checking out certain subjects, you’ll easily be able to navigate to them. Here’s an overview of the topics included in this month’s update.

Video Summary

First Year Takeaways

Scot Lane, David Verfaillie, Drew Higbee, and Katy Kaszynski talk about “starts, stops, and continues” for New World development. Learn more about how they’re continuing to work toward a more enjoyable Aeternum based on past experiences. Highlights include more communication with players, more cohesive storytelling such as the revamped starting experience, and mounts. The Team also touches on expanding combat, harder PvE content, and leaning into solo play without taking away from group play.

Revamped Starting Experience

Players will soon have another reason to depart for the island of Immortality. Dive into what to expect from level 1 to 25 as part of our revamped starting experience. Look forward to livelier NPCs, whispers from the Tempest, and more unique points of interest, plus faster leveling, multiple story paths, and streamlined quests.

Brimstone Sands

Gain insight into Brimstone Sand’s lore, level design, and art direction. This massive zone introduces more to New World than any prior update. Players will explore additional verticality, new mechanics like Ancient Glyphs, and notable landmarks while navigating an alternate take on Egyptian history.

Heartgems

This segment focuses on a new combat mechanic coming to New World. Find out how to upgrade and make the most of Heartrunes. There’s more to their inspiration than simply adding another active ability.

Greatsword Weapon

Discover how the Greatsword offers new ways to play through different stances. The Team also discusses the two-handed weapon’s design, sounds, and Skill Trees. Players looking for a new option to tank beyond the Sword & Shield may have found their answer.

Ennead Expedition

Our newest Expedition is a pyramid built by Imhotep and the Ancients thousands of years ago. Players will unearth the landmark’s legacy, encounter more bosses than any other Expedition, and evade various security measures on their way to the center of Brimstone Sand’s problems.

We appreciate your support throughout our first year! We’ll see you in Aeternum!
